AIM

To enhance the participants’ skills in providing a service to non-English speakers.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course delegates should gain a practical understanding of:

  • Duties and responsibilities placed on Service Providers in relation to interpreting services (Contacting, billing, briefing…)
  • Impact of the Service Provider upon the non-English speaker (language, cross cultural communication…)
  • Good practice working with interpreters (role-plays, shadowing)
  • Role and responsibilities of interpreters towards Service Providers and clients (code of ethics etc)
  • Current interpreting qualifications and training
  • Key issues in accessing interpreters
